Burnout is a term many of us have heard, yet few truly understand its grip until we’re caught in its clutches. I know this firsthand. One day, while Jamie and I were walking our dog, I realised I had spent two solid hours talking about work—and not in a joyful or inspired way. That walk was the turning point when I knew something had to change.
Jamie handed me a book by Beverley Jones, Made It Thru the Rain, and it became the light I needed to guide me forward. I read it that weekend, and it saved me. Through Beverley’s words, I began to understand the signs of burnout. I recognised how withdrawn I had become, avoiding socialising and feeling a shadow of my former self. I felt like a parmesan cheese where the hard bit that goes in the foodbin was still there but everything else had been grated away from my former self. My confidence was shattered after the end of a 25-year relationship, and I felt lost. As someone who thrives on connection and communication, finding myself in such a lonely place was devastating. Beverley’s book gave me the courage to leave my job and ask for help—two steps that changed everything.
If you’re facing depression or burnout, I can’t recommend the book enough. It’s a powerful reminder that you’re not alone. But even more importantly, my advice is simple: reach out. Asking for help is a strength, not a weakness.
A Journey of Rediscovery
Having run several businesses and with my life experience as a Globetrotter I should have felt equipped to start afresh. But burnout stripped away my confidence, leaving me feeling broken. Joining Jamie in his business selling disability products was my first step towards rebuilding myself. Then, like many others, we faced unforeseen challenges during the pandemic. Our supply chain from China was disrupted, and Jamie’s speaking engagements were cancelled almost overnight. We lost everything we had worked so hard for.
Rather than giving up, we pivoted. The world was paralysed and isolated, but we saw a way to help. We created an online platform and marketplace directory, offering businesses a way to connect and thrive. It was a business built on the foundation of community and collaboration, values that remain close to my heart.
Difficult Choices, Greater Rewards
Running See No Bounds was a joy, but there comes a time in life when difficult choices need to be made for your wellbeing and relationships. We knew it was time to let the network stand on its own two feet so we could focus on our personal growth and happiness. For me, that meant delving into personal development and Timeline Therapy ®, tools that helped me rediscover the confidence and the Charlott I thought was lost forever.
Today, I run my own freelance business with clients I absolutely adore. I’ve built a life that includes time for a walk at lunchtime, something as simple as that has become a non-negotiable for my wellbeing. Alongside this, I run Blue Koala Office Solutions, a business born from the spirit of collaboration. We recently received a lovely feature in #EntrepreneurSpirit magazine by Christine Michaelis, which highlighted our mission to foster creative partnerships. Coming into the office each day is a joy—not just for the work we do but for the brainstorming, connection, and support we share as a team.
Looking Ahead
Life today feels balanced and fulfilling. Alongside my own ventures, I also work closely with Jamie and his business manager, Sarah Creed, to oversee JamieMcAnsh.com—but that’s a story for another time!
Burnout is a formidable challenge, but it doesn’t have to define you. With the right support, tools, and mindset, it’s possible to rebuild not only your confidence but also a life you truly love. If you’re reading this and feeling like I did on that dog walk, take it as a sign to pause, reflect, and ask for help. Sometimes, the hardest decisions lead to the most rewarding outcomes.
